Alrik Yuill exhibition at Tosti Studios Gallery in Laguna Beach
Alrik Yuill presents his third solo exhibition and first exhibition at Tosti Studios Gallery. He was born in Gaviota, CA and moved up and down the California Coast until his family settled in Orange County, where he attended the Laguna College of Art and Design. He graduated in 2005, and his love for figurative art that he realized at the college continues to be at the forefront of his inspiration.
His sculptures contain many organic textures and evidence of his hand within the molded clay. For the smaller sculptures, he often prefers working with beeswax because it responds to temperature, easily going from liquid to solid. The beeswax also contains a sentimental reference for him when he would play with it as a kid.
About his decision to be an artist, Alrik says that he, "Never felt like I had much choice in the matter... All my thoughts and mental attributes are geared towards art." In the future, Alrik plans to continue evolving his figurative sculptures and paintings and is interested in the possibility of collaborating with designers and architects to enrich both private and public environments.
The exhibit through December 30th, go here for more info

ARTIST STATEMENT:
The art of Alrik Yuill explores the human experience through honest and creative translation. He leaves evidence of the pieces evolution to a present state where they remain, suspended in time, seeking a definition of realism in their own raw and refined expression. Casting his clay or wax sculptures into bronze or plaster, he solidifies concepts that he spends countless hours defining within his mind, careful to sustain the original nature of the evolved vision.
Alrik sees art as participating in the creation of our realities, both individual and cultural. He explores this concept in his sculpture as well as his paintings, and other two-dimensional works. Many abstract paintings are inspired by the ocean, horizon, sky, and sun. He ventures into the very personal and ethereal experience of color and light, recalling hours floating in the sea and prolonged blinks into the sun. All the patterns of light running around within the eyelids become like melodies that move his hand and brush like the string that vibrates in sound.
