Five questions about … the Rangers
Five questions about ... the Rangers
Ever tried to slip out and run some errands in your rattiest sweatsuit, hair uncombed – only to run into your church priest, your kid's teacher, your own boss or someone else you'd like to impress?
That's the position the Angels are in as they head to Texas this weekend.
The Angels-Rangers matchup was supposed to be one of the most attractive and competitive in the majors this season. But the Angels arrived in Texas with a losing record after struggling through possibly the most disappointing opening month in franchise history. Their star attraction is under the Mendoza Line (Albert Pujols, .198). And, oh yeah – they just found out their starting catcher (Chris Iannetta) needs wrist surgery and will miss six to eight weeks.
Not exactly at their most presentable, are they?
The Rangers, meanwhile, have the best record in baseball (21-11), their offense clubbing the opposition into submission led by Josh Hamilton fresh off his four-homer game earlier in the week.
Nonetheless, we'll call this the first in a series of 'showdowns' between the Rangers and Angels and check in with Dallas Morning News baseball writer Evan Grant for some perspective on the two-time defending AL champs.
