Blacken Center Cut Pork Chops with a green brandy peppercorn sauce, mozzarella mashed potatoes and caramelized asparagus is the chef's favorite at the Gourmet Cafe & Pie Company in Los Alamitos.

Restaurant review: Gourmet Cafe & Pie Co.

Comfort food and pie in Los Alamitos, this cafe deliveres both.

This is the kind of cozy diner you could bring your mom to, but you could also bring a date.

The Gourmet Café & Pie Company serves large helpings of comfort food, washed down with cocktails and plenty of flaky, home-baked pies. It's hard to imagine anyone walking away from the table hungry.

Located across from Costco in Los Alamitos, the restaurant is divided into two sections: A sports bar dining area and another dining room reminiscent of an upscale coffee shop.

With golden toned walls and maroon upholstery, it feels warm and cozy. I brought my two kids and they felt right at home.

We came for the first time at 4 p.m. and discovered some great happy hour and early bird dinner specials.

The so-called "light dinner entrees" — offered every day between 3 and 5:30 p.m. — range in price from $10.95 to $13.95. Although they're billed as a lighter meal, they still include soup or salad, entrée, vegetable, non-alcoholic beverage and a slice of homemade pie.
