If you listen carefully, you will not hear the sound of dueling pianos in downtown Fullerton.

And, boy, that is such a relief.

No offense to piano players, but I found the dueling pianos at Rockin' Taco Cantina a bit annoying. When the venerable nightspot went out of business, I was relieved on some level.

But I also was concerned about the void left in the downtown scene. I need not have worried.

Rockin' Taco Cantina has been replaced by the Matador Cantina, and it is a good trade for us dueling-piano-haters.

Opened April 6, the Matador offers Mexican fare and a lounge vibe in a historic building with real brick walls and large booths lining one wall.

I spoke to one customer, who was familiar with the previous occupant, and he said: "It was definitely time for a change."

I agree.
