AfterWork: Cha Cha's in Brea

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Back in the day, when you wanted to have some fun on a Tuesday night, you got in line outside The Hop nightclub in Fountain Valley for the immensely popular "Rock Around the Clock" show.

Once the club closed and the show ascended to rock 'n' roll heaven, there was nothing to do in Orange County on Tuesday nights.

Some clever restaurant owners came up with the discounted tacos promotion that is widely known as "Taco Tuesdays," although that name may be owned by a particular chain. Still, you can find generic taco promotions at many O.C. nightspots.

Promotion-minded Downtown Brea seems to have come up with an exceptional Tuesday night destination.

Birch Street is closed for a popular farmer's market on Tuesdays, and Cha Cha's offers what it calls "Tacos & Tequila Tuesday" that has turned a traditionally slow night into an extension of the weekend.

Cha Cha's already had one of the best happy hours in the county (according to a particularly handsome Register columnist related to my wife by marriage), but its Tuesday-night promotion is above and beyond the call of tacos and tequila.

All six of the restaurant's tacos (shrimp, carnitas, carne asada, chicken, Mahi-Mahi and Portobello mushroom) are half-priced, as are all premium tequilas. And those discounts are available all night – not just a few hours after work.

If you were wondering if their margaritas live up to the reputation of the tacos, I can assure you that the Register's professional drinker, Paul Hodgins, anointed the margarita as the best in the county. And that guy gets paid to drink and tell.
