Farrell's ice cream challenge kicks off Monday
Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor will be the backdrop of a competition that will most likely give participants a brain freeze. From June 18 to July 8, hopefuls can walk up to any Southern California location and try to qualify for Farrell's 3rd Annual Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Eating Challenge to benefit CHOC Children's Hospital and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Challengers will be able to compete in one of eight categories; Men's Individual Pig's Trough Challenge (ages 16 and up), Women's Individual Pig's Trough Challenge (ages 16 and up), Kid's Individual Jr. Pig's Trough Challenge (ages 9-15), The Big and Small Pig's Trough Challenge (2-person team, ages 16 and up and 9 and under), The 4-person Zoo Challenge (4-person team, ages 16 and up), and the Men's and Women's Professional Zoo Challenge (ages 18 and up).
Participants will also be able to qualify at the OC Market Place's Woodstock Tribute Weekend on July 7 and 8 at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The qualification sundae for the Men's Individual, Women's Individual, The Big and Small, and The 4-person Zoo will consist of three scoops; The Kid's Individual Jr. will consist of three junior size scoops, and the Professional Zoo will involve eating six scoops.
Price of admission to the qualification round is $20 per person for the Men's, Women's Kid's, and 4-person Zoo Challenge ($80 in total), $20 per team for the Big and Small Pig's Trough Challenge, and $40 per person for the Professional Zoo Challenge. Each individual or team will receive one limited edition event t-shirt and a $5 off coupon which can be used until 12/31/12.
On July 15, at the Downtown Brea location, eight finalists in the Men's, Women's, and the Big and Small Categories will battle the Pig Trough, 6-scoop Sunday. The Kids Challenge finalists will eat a Jr. Pig Trough, which consists of 6 smaller ice cream scoops. The 4-person Zoo Challengers and the Individual Professional Challengers will have the job of finishing a 30-scoop ice cream sundae that weighs roughly 5 ½ lbs.
Competition winners will receive a trophy and all-you-can-eat ice cream, once a month, for a year. The Professional winner will also receive a $500 cash prize.
All net proceeds from the competition will go to CHOC and Make-A-Wish.
