A Coachella dream wedding, with Radiohead for the reception
You never know what you're going to stumble upon at Coachella: your new favorite indie band, an old friend you haven't seen since grade school, or ... a wedding?
That's what happened Saturday to a slew of passers-by, as L.A.'s Memo Zavala and Lauren Shryock tied the knot in a near-impromptu ceremony in the middle of one of the festival's myriad art exhibits, the one resembling an Indian temple.
The couple decided to get married at Coachella just a few months ago and asked a friend to become an ordained minister via the internet so they could make it legal on the field. Though the couple lives in Oklahoma now, their friends were all going to be at Coachella, and the idea of a built-in party was a bonus for them.
The ceremony was short, sweet and attended by not just the bride's and groom's friends but anyone who wanted to be part of it, with the bride looking glamorous in a sundress and flower-child headband, the groom donning a collared shirt, suit vest and a Dodgers hat to keep out the sun.
It was his second Coachella, her first. "I've known about it since it started, and I always wanted to come," she said.
But the biggest benefit might have been the after-party: "Who better to play your reception than Radiohead!" the happy groom exclaimed.
