North Shore Winter: Vans World Cup of Surfing, Sunset Beach - Day 4 of the holding period

Saturday was an unexpected lay day for the Vans World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach. The swell that we thought would stick around through the morning was not as big as we thought, so the officials called for a lay day and are now looking at a new swell to fill in Monday-Tuesday.

As word got out that the contest was off for the day, everyone searched out waves up and down the seven miles that make up the North Shore, being that they were up early and ready for battle. The two spots that seemed to draw in swell and surfers where Rocky Point and Off the Wall, both still in the fun 2- to 3-foot range.

Brett Simpson of Huntington Beach and new team member to Hurley Kolohe Andino were both out at two breaks right next to each other; Simpson at Back Door and Andino at Off the Wall. The Vans World Cup is looking to run Tuesday with an outside chance of a late Monday start to get a few heats out of the way.
