Third day of competition ran in wind chopped 8' foot surf with rain throughout the afternoon. Challenging from the first heat of the day to the last. Orange County fared the storm pretty good with Chris Ward, Brett Simpson, Tanner Gudauskas and Nate Yeomans all surfing tomorrow in the round of 32.

Monday is the first day of the work week for all us working stiffs but it was also a work day for the competitors of the Vans World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach with big, ugly, stormy conditions. Early morning was better than the rest of the day as the 8-foot surf was wind blown and choppy with sunny skies and not too bad on the wave faces, but as the day went on, in came the rain with western winds just blowing everything everywhere and an afternoon of rain to make it just that much more work for the guys.

Not too bad a day for the Orange County surfers as Chris Ward, Brett Simpson, Tanner Gudauskas and Nate Yeomans all advanced to the round of 32, with Kolohe Andino and Pat Gudauskas both taking an exit in the round of 64.

Tuesday will be the final day of competition of the second stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The day should hold much better conditions than today, with the winds backing off and mostly sunny skies and 7- to 9-foot swells hitting most of the day.

If you would like to watch the finals live, you can catch them on the Web here or if you have Time Warner, you can watch live on TV in HD. Check local listings.
