'Day at the Pool' now available on DVD and iTunes
Day at the Pool, a documentary short that covers the true origins of modern skateboarding, was released on DVD and iTunes on January 25.
The short challenges the film Dogtown and Z-Boys explanations of skateboarding history and discloses a hidden secret that questions the true origins of the sport.
"We have heard critics exclaim that the film is a hoax, a sham. But that really isn't the point, is it?” said filmmaker Ian Douglass. “All the guys that we know who are 'core surfers and skaters' are appreciating how we're taking the sport and viewing it in a whimsical manner.”
Day at the Pool features interviews with professional skateboarders Stacy Peralta, Jay Adams, Orange County native Duane Peters and others from Dogtown as they inform viewers of how the skateboarding revolution began.
Despite the controversy the film has caused, the 2012 Irvine International Film Festival named the documentary Best Documentary Short and directors Douglass and Eric Fulford were named People’s Choice Best Director at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.
