San Clemente ready to choose its ‘official drink'

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Which bartender in San Clemente can concoct the best original drink of 2012?

Will it be "Can't Remember" by Adele Lux of Adele's at the San Clemente Inn?

Or maybe "Wicked Wahine" by Steph Schaller of Sunsets at the Pier?

How about "Mexican Penicillin" by Vince Bough and Jared Cook of St. Roy at Vine?

Or "Poche Punch" by Yvonne Kimball of Ole's Tavern?

Those are four of a dozen entries in the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce's 2012 San Clemente Original Drink Contest, which will run from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Sunsets at the Pier, 610 Avenida Victoria.

Last year's winning drink was "Hana Martini" by Michael Swain of Taka-O Japanese Restaurant. Under the rules, participating bars and restaurants agree to adopt the winning drink and sell it during the next year as San Clemente's "official drink."

This year, Swain will enter "Hawaiian Fizz." Other contestants are "The Riviera" by Hunter Orahood of BeachFire; "Limoncello Collins" by Andre Svadjian of Brick Pizzeria; "Kumquat Basil Mimosa" by Antoine Price of Cafe Mimosa; "SC Razberry Kiss" by Lisa Brandriff of Duke's; "Ginger Berry" by Kirsten Garber of OC Tavern; "Sally Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore" by Sally Daniel of Red Fox Lounge; and "Skinny Watermelon Margarita" by Erin Meek of Sundried Tomato American Bistro.
