AfterWork: Commonwealth Lounge in Fullerton

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Q. What's the best thing about happy hour?

A. The discounted drinks and appetizers, of course.

Q. What's the worse thing about happy hour?

A. It ends too soon.

How many times have you been out late at night with the munchies and not a lot of cash on you? Too many times, I suppose.

But, if you're anywhere near downtown Fullerton, there is an answer. Its name is the Commonwealth Lounge.

The Commonwealth has a regular happy hour. From 5-7 p.m., you can drop by and enjoy half-priced appetizers and discounted booze.

Four hours later, you can do it again.

The cozy, sexy bar offers a late-night menu seven nights a week (10 p.m. until midnight Sundays-Thursdays, and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays) that includes about 10 small plates at a discounted price. And we're not talking about wings and nachos. Included on the late-night menu are Ahi tuna, baby back ribs and beef satay.

Because it's later in the evening, there is more of a club vibe than you'd find at the earlier happy hour. There is a DJ spinning music, and more than a few adventurous souls fill the small dance floor.

On Thursdays, it's called "Ladies Night," and I'm not sure what that means, except that there are a lot of ladies there.
