Detox juice bar to double locations

Detox juice bar to double locations

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

A detoxifying, body-cleansing juice bar, Nekter Juice Bar, is set to open three more Orange County locations in early May.

In addition to the Costa Mesa, Coronoa del Mar and Long Beach sites, the detox juice bar will be opening in Dana Point, Anaheim Hills and Newport Beach.

The shop offers customers green juice blends, raw nut-milk smoothies and vegan snacks. It also has its own cleansing program where customers can order a set of custom blends of vegetable and fruit juices and vanilla-bean nut milk. The cleanse is meant to eliminate toxins and rebalance the body.

Steve and Alexis Schulze founded Nekter Juice in 2010.

For Nekter’s cleansing program, customers can either choose from a one, two, three or five-day juice cleansing set. During this process customers will be given six bottles of juice to drink every two hours and much be finished each day in a particular order. No food should be eaten, but drinking plenty of water is required.

“They (the cleansing juices) provide all of the nutrients and vitamins that you would need. You’re body isn’t starving itself,” said Nekter co-founder Alexis Schulze. “It’s allowing your body to rest.”

Although the cleanse products are quite popular they only make half of the sales, while the other half comes from people buying the other juices on the menu, Schulze said.

Schulze came up with the idea for Nekter in mid-2010 when she bought a drink from the juice bar where she took a yoga class.

“I had a hard time getting (the juice) down,” Schulze said. “I went back and had them sweeten it up and put it over ice … I was able to get them and started really enjoying how good I felt.”

Schulze noticed improvements in her hair and skin after she started juicing regularly. After sharing her concoctions with friends and family, Schulze began extensive research on fruits and vegetables and why the body benefits from them. “We came up with the recipes based on that,” she said.

In fall 2010, she opened the flagship Nekter Juice in Costa Mesa.

Sales were slow at first but picked up within weeks as “word of mouth” spread about the shop's cleansing juices.

“It’s becoming kind of a trendy thing – to walk around with a green drink. Almost like how it was to walk around with a Styrofoam coffee cup a few years ago,” she said.

By next month, she'll have six locations open in Orange County.

North Orange County will see its first Nekter Juice Bar in Anaheim Hills on La Palma Avenue, near the 55 freeway.

The Dana Point shop will be taking the place of the former Beach Pit BBQ in the Ocean Ranch community and will be the largest of the six locations. Address: 32371 Golden Lantern, Dana Point

Newport Beach will have the first Nekter Juice Bar Express. Located in Fashion Island, the kiosk will sell bottled Nekter juices. Juices will not be prepared at that location. Address: 401 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach

Schulze said she's also scouting locations in Los Angeles and San Diego counties. She also plans to launch online shipping of her products.
