Late Night Happy Hours in OC
From smaller restaurants to better-known chains, local eateries are concocting affordable late night drinks and dishes to satisfy foodies addicted to the midnight munchies.
In Orange County, the late-night Happy Hour is going strong — a post-dinner time slot aimed at foodies who want to indulge at the bar without breaking their budget. These discounted menus are showing up in all sectors, from upscale bars like Haven Gastropub in Orange to mainstream chains such as Irvine-based Yard House.
"Late-night happy hour is so good for people like me," said Steven Nguyen, a Santa Ana Morton's Steakhouse regular. "I work late and it's so affordable for people that are on a budget. I mean, you get quality for what you pay for."
Brittany Nash, bartender at Lazy Dog Cafe in Westminster, said her chain's late-night bar menu tries to offer big portions for a value. "We definitely try to accommodate when it comes to prices and people really like that."
Here's a list of places offering Late Night Happy Hour deals:
Morton's Steakhouse in Santa Ana and Anaheim has Power Hour. The Anaheim location holds Power Hour Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to close, and in Santa Ana, Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to close. Morton's "bar bites" include three prime cheeseburger sliders and crab cake sliders for $6. The Santa Ana location offers a variety of drinks, starting with wine for $5, beers for $4 and $7 for martinis. The most popular Power Hour appetizer is the $7 smoked salmon pizza. Power Hour is only valid at the bar. In Anaheim, the late night Happy Hour is food only.
Haven Gastropub in Old Towne Orange holds Happy Hour nightly from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The pubs menu includes $6 to $8 appetizers such as the margherita flatbread and the pulled pork sandwich. Te pub deals are for grub only.
Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ in Tustin and Brea holds Happy Hour every day at the Flying Pig Lounge, nightly from 9 p.m. to close and from Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. All appetizers are 50 percent off with beers $1-$2 off and cocktails $1 off. Some appetizer favorites includ: "Carolina" skins and spinach dip. The most popular drinks are the classic mojito and the "Back Porch" strawberry lemonade.
Lazy Dog Cafe in Westminster and Tustin holds their Happy Hour Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to close and earlier in the day from Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. With drink specials like $5 pink lemon drop and champagne mojitos. Their appetizers are all $2 off, their most popular being the hummus trio. Lazy Dog also has $5 off personal pizzas and $2 off large pizzas. Happy Hour only available in bar and patio.
Yard House locations in Brea, Newport Beach, Irvine and Costa Mesa hold their Happy Hour Sunday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to close and Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. They offer half price off select appetizers and pizzas and $6 martinis as well as $3.50 for domestic pints.
Ruby's Diner in San Juan Capistrano recently added The Sky Ranch bar, the only one of its kind from the Ruby's chain. The Sky Ranch holds a late-night Happy Hour from 8 p.m. to close. It includes half price appetizers, $3 draft beers, $4 well drinks and $4 wines.
Cafe Tu Tu Tango at The Block in Orange has Happy Hour, Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to close and Monday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The cafe serves appetizers like chicken empanadas and "Cajun" chicken egg rolls for $5 and drinks, from $2 for all beer to 50 percent off mixed drinks. Happy Hour is valid in the whole restaurant.
Bayside in Newport Beach has Happy Hour daily from 5 p.m. to close, at their new outdoor lounge. The restaurant has also added a new Tapas menu, offering the Spanish finger-food for as low as $6. Drinks are also available and start at $6. Some favorites include the specialty martini with five flavors to choose from like Apple, Cosmopolitan, Peach, Watermelon or Island Punch.
Salt Creek Grille in Dana Point offers Happy Hour Sunday through Friday from 5 p.m. to close at the outdoor cabana patio and earlier, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the lounge. The eatery offers $5 martinis and $3 cocktails, including house chardonnay, beers, cabernet and merlot. Appetizers are $4 and include favorites like the mesquite grilled sliders and stuffed jumbo shrimp. Reservations for the cabana are recommended.
Rockin' Baja in Newport Beach offers Rockin' Happy Hour nightly from 9 p.m. to close and Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. at the bar. Drink specials vary from $3 to $5 and appetizers like the "Topless" tacos are available for $2 and favorites like the shrimp cocktails for $6.
Charlie Palmer at South Coast Plaza has Happy Hour available nightly from 10 p.m. to midnight and earlier from 4-7 p.m. in the lounge. The bar offers 50 percent off all specialty cocktails and wine by the glass. It's bar only and appetizers are regular price.
Hurricanes Bar and Grille in Huntington Beach holds a special Power Hour from 9 p.m. to close every day as well as Happy Hour from Monday through Saturday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The deals include appetizers 25 percent off and $2 off any bar item. The drink deal includes all of its 1,000 creations, available in the entire restaurant.
Dave & Busters in Orange and Irvine offer Happy Hour from Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to close and earlier in the day from 4:30-7 p.m. valid at the bar and in the arcade. The Happy Hour deal includes 50 percent off cocktails and $1 off wine by glass and large beer. The most popular cocktail, "Walk the Plank," is mixed with coconut rum, Bacardi rum and a variety of juices. No appetizers are included in this Happy Hour.
Pizzeria Ortica in Costa Mesa has a Happy Hour available late at night, Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. to close and earlier in the day from 3-6 p.m. The Happy Hour food deal includes a $7 pizza, as well as, $3 cocktails and 50 percent off wine and beers. Happy Hour is available in the bar dining area.
McCormick & Schmick's in Santa Ana, Irvine and Anaheim have Happy Hour available Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. (9:30 p.m in Anaheim) to close and an earlier Happy Hour from 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., depending on the location. The Santa Ana McCormick & Schmick's also offer Happy Hour from 4:00 p.m. until close on Wednesdays. Each location has wide and varied selection for appetizers as low as $2 to $5. As for drink specials each location offers beers and cocktails depending on the day. For example, Anaheim holds a "Wednesday Bar Party" offering $5 sangria and a Thursday Happy Hour serving $6 martini. Happy Hour is only available at the bar for all locations.
BJ's in both Huntington Beach locations, Irvine, Laguna Hills and Brea have Happy Hour available Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to close and earlier in the day on Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. The specials include $1 off all beers and cocktails and $2 off all appetizers, like the most popular avocado egg rolls. Mini pizzas are also 50 percent off.
The Cellar in downtown Fullerton offers Green Hour every Friday from 9 p.m. to close at the bar. They offer 25 percent off all bar items. Their biggest seller is the Absynthe -the reason for the name Green Hour.
Cucina Alessá in downtown Huntington Beach offers a late-night Happy Hour 9 p.m. until closing Sundays-Thursdays. Appetizers such as ravioli and Carpaccio cost $4 to $6. Drink specials: $3 drafts, $4 signature cocktails (Italian Margarita or Limoncello Drop Martini, both generous pours), $4 for selected premium wines, $4 for well drinks, $3.50 for house cabernet, chardonnay and merlot.
