Time change for annual Surf City Splash

If you plan on washing off the old and bringing in the new by running into the water with hundreds of other crazy New Years celebrators, note that this year's bash has a new time.

For the past 12 years, revelers have shown up to the Huntington Beach Pier for a splashing start to the New Year, a fundraiser for the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum.

Usually the event is at noon, but this year the countdown starts at 10 a.m. – so if you are coming down, make sure you're not late for the party.

The event started when Huntington Beach resident Michael Parks and a few friends who decided to do something crazy for New Year's Day.

The Lions Club puts on an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast at the pier, with donations going to charities such as The International Surfing Museum, Canine Companions for Independence, Lions Hearing Clinic and Research Center, SightFirst Foundation, Therapeutic Riding Center and Project Self-Sufficiency.

There are fun awards given out for youngest and oldest plunger, best costume, largest group and more. Information: HBSurfCitySplash.com
