OC Trends: What's your T?
Summer is over and the nights and days are getting chillier, but that doesn't change the fact that most guys in California will still wear T-shirts. Us girls have so many other options for casual attire, but guys normally stick to the basic T's and button downs. If you go to Japan things would be a little different, guys there are pretty experimental with tops and fashion in general. But we are over 5,000 miles away so its no wonder the fashion is quite different.
I pulled some pictures from the Hurley Pro at Trestles and put together some T-shirt images to show what was going on down at the beach. One strong showing that is so much more winter then summer, was the black T-shirt. As we learned in our wee years, black absorbs light, thus it's a hotter T to wear when the sun is beating down on you. But when your cold and want to collect the heat, black is perfect! The guys at Trestles wore black with either a medley of bright neon colors, rock inspired graphics or simple white on black. Black on white was another common T that surprisingly made bolder statements then the color combo suggests.
Other graphics included 70's color blends like mud brown, sunset orange and daisy yellow. Natural creams, greens and browns always do well when relating to nature inspired sports. Nature themes will forever be apart of outdoor sports fashion with not only color, but graphic inspirations too, like palm trees and waves. Organic shapes are very prevalent on T's, not only the nature inspired ones but the circular shapes that many logo's incorporate. Or the loose hand drawn quality a lot of the art-work has.
For women a lot of looks took organic in a different way with a boho/hippy style. Peace signs, words of love and wisdom, sheer materials and tie-dye qualities were all big hits for the ladies. Revealing some while covering up the rest… These trends will carry over to the winter and expand into black laces and sheers that hint at what's below with out revealing to much. Boho and hippy will still be big inspirations (as recent fashion shows confirm), but also big will be rock inspired outfits with lot's of black, high strappy heels and aggressive but sexy cuts and silhouettes.
For men if your going to wear a T-shirt go with bold large graphics that cover the front of the shirt or, subtle colors in smaller sized graphics. Pick graphics that fit your personality and if you can rock it go for it.
