Pechanga to Host Ladies Poker Weekend
Pechanga is opening the doors to its state-of-the-art 54-table poker room to all ladies looking to play a little Hold ‘em. Put on by the Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS), the largest and most recognized ladies event promoters in the industry, the four-day “I Love Poker” weekend begins Thursday, March 29th and goes through April 1st. It is the first time the Pechanga Poker Room has put on a weekend-long ladies event. While most of the tournaments are ladies only, there will be a ‘his and hers’ event on Thursday night at 8pm. The “Turbo Knockout $10 Bounty” event with a $40 buy-in and $10 entry fee is open to all players, so that women who bring their men along can play together.
LIPS has been promoting women in poker for more than 10 years. The founder of LIPS, Lupe Soto, is considered an innovator in the industry, aiming to create events, instead of standard tournaments. Women from all over the US travel to LIPS events and build friendships with the other women that play. Just one example of this is the “Welcome Ladies Comedy Show” on Thursday night at the Comedy Club at Pechanga and headlined by Vicki Barbolak, the winner of “Funniest Mom in America 3” on Nick@Nite. This is a mixer, with drinks, appetizers and comedy for the ladies to get to meet each other and have some fun before the tournaments begin. The opening comedians for the event will be Cindy Burns and Shawn Pelofski. Only ladies participating in the LIPS events (and their husbands or boyfriends) are invited.
Another special event in the tournament will be an Advanced Poker Seminar with Linda Johnson and Jan Fisher, both inductees to the Poker Hall Of Fame and founders of the Tournament Director’s Association.
LIPS will present the winner of the “Main Event” on Sunday with a trophy and bracelet, while the winner of the “Licensed To Kill” event later that day will be awarded a seat into the LIPS Grand Championship Event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We want to show these ladies that we appreciate them playing at Pechanga,” said Poker Room Shift Manager Star Pulver, who helped organize the LIPS event and has been associated with the group for years. “We want to put on a fun and exciting weekend and leave them with something special to tell their friends about.”
