Pujols hits first home run as an Angel

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

Albert Pujols grabbed hold of  a 2-2 slider from Toronto right-hander Drew Hutchison in the fifth inning of Sunday's game and — crack! — sent it soaring over the left field wall and bouncing into the bullpen for a two-run home run, his first home run as an Angel.

The home run, which was estimated at 390 feet, came on his 111th at-bat this season and ends what had been the longest long-ball drought of his illustrious career. It scored Mike Trout and gave the Angels a 4-1 lead.

The Angel Stadium crowd jumped to its feet and stood while Pujols jogged around the bases. While crossing the plate, he touched his heart, looked up and pointed to the heavens — his signature celebration these fans hadn't see from this Angel before.

This was Pujols' 446 career home run.
