Restaurant gift certificates for $2

Restaurant.com is a website that offers you the chance to buy discounted gift certificates to thousands of restaurants around the country.

Dining establishments vary from fancy hotels to tiny storefronts.

They say they've got 18,000 restaurants signed up altogether. That could feed you for a week or two.

Occasionally, Restaurant.com runs really good specials, like right now.

You can buy a $25 gift certificate that normally would cost you a discounted $10 for only $2, if you enter the promo code SUMMER in the box provided.

Make sure you enter the SUMMER promo code or you won't get the discount. If you do it right, the discount will appear immediately.

I can't find anything that says when this deal expires, but if I do, I will update you.

There are rules for the deal that vary by restaurant, for example, you might be able to buy a $25 gift certificate for $10, but you must spend $35, for example, to get the deal.

Sometimes, you can only dine Sunday through Thursday, or only for dinner. So, read the restrictions.

Also, you must tip the server 18% on the total of the bill, not the discounted amount, which is only fair, really, speaking as a former waitress.

You can go to the Restaurant.com website to see the offerings for the city where you want to eat. Then, if you're inclined, you could check out that restaurant's reviews on Yelp to see if it's a place you want to eat.

I just bought a few of these and plan to try them. I haven't used any myself but readers say they're great.
