Three Stooges on film: Finally!
Three Stooges on film: Finally!
Ted Healy met Moses Horwitz in 1909. Healy was 13. Horwitz was 12.
Either of those names ring a bell? Probably only to diehard Three Stooges fans.
Healy wound up playing straight man to the Stooges, and Horwitz – well, Horwitz changed his name to Moe Howard and was none other than Moe of Curly, Moe and Larry fame.
The Stooges' slapstick was born in the 1930s when they made films and shorts that many consider classic. Although the group's membership changed through the years – two of Howard's brothers would join – the Curly, Moe and Larry iteration seems to be the most beloved. It's the Stoogiest trio we remember.
Enter the Farrelly brothers, Peter and Bobby, who have wanted to make a Stooge movie since 1994. They've finally done it, and after years of waiting, the movie premiered at Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood last week.
It opens nationwide Friday. If you're not a Stooge fan, you probably don't care. And if you are ... well, it all depends on whether you think this is sacrilege, satire or the Farrellys' way of paying tribute.
If you go, we'd like to know what you think. Come back after you see the film and take our poll.
