I've bought a shirt in a Tommy Bahama store. I've bought pants in a Tommy Bahama store. I've even bought a belt in a Tommy Bahama store.
But I've never bought a martini in a Tommy Bahama store. And I definitely never bought ribs in a Tommy Bahama store.
However, in Newport Beach, I can buy a shirt and then wear it while I sip a martini at the Tommy Bahama's Island Grille.
It is one of 12 such cafes around the country that combine the standard retail outlet with a bar and dining experience.
Manager Scott Perry said the bar and restaurant are extensions of the Tommy Bahama brand in that they celebrate the tropical lifestyle that the label popularized. The local branch has been around more than a decade.
Of course, I'm too big a slob to eat ribs in a Tommy Bahama shirt so I would suggest that fellow slobs bring along a bib.
