Possible start Saturday of the Billabong Pipeline Masters
Friday morning went by quietly here on the North Shore for a few reasons. One is a lot of people where sleeping in after the rager that went down after the Surfer Poll Awards. Two, this morning was the annual Turtle Bay Resort Surfer Golf Tournament and all the top pros continued the party into the golf carts. And thirdly, everyone was resting up for the possible start of the third and final jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Saturday at Pipeline. As the swell builds through the night it looks like we might have a noon start Saturday of the first round in 6- to 8-foot Pipeline and 10-foot by evening.
This wave is no joke, so for the WT surfers, Friday night will be very quiet as tomorrow looms. Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson were not seen at all Friday as they will be surfing for not only the Pipe Masters title but also for a world title. As these two men go into the Billabong Pipe Masters, they are one and two in the world and Pipe will be the event that will crown a 2012 WT Champion.
