Nixon Library is free for Veterans Day

This library is free to all Veterans Day, not just military or veterans.

If you're looking for something to do on Veterans Day, I strongly recommend visiting the Nixon presidential library, museum and birthplace in Yorba Linda.

This is a very interesting site and even kids will enjoy it, since they can walk through a real presidential helicopter and see the presidential limousine that Nixon took to China with him.

Thanks to the foundation that runs the library, admission is free on Veterans Day and most patriotic holidays.

There are many interesting exhibits and the Watergate exhibit has been completely revamped, so it would be interesting to see the changes since the national archives took over that part of the operation.

You can see the tiny house where Nixon was born and also pay a visit to his grave, along with that of his wife, Pat.  Political exhibits describe his career, and there are also other interesting things to see, including a chunk of the Berlin wall. My kids loved the hall with lifesize bronze statues of world leaders Nixon met in his lifetime.

Normally admission is Adults: $11.95; Seniors: $8.50; Students: $6.95; Active Military: $6.95; Children (7-11): $4.75.  They offer free admission to all on most patriotic holidays, which I thank them for, it's a great service to the county.

Events scheduled at the library for Fri. Nov, 11, 2011 (from the website)

11:00 AM Special Veterans Day tribute program, including a formal presentation of the Colors by U.S. Marines, patriotic musical performances by the Villa Park High School Symphonic Ensemble and the Orange High School Choir, remarks by leaders of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a keynote address by the longest serving American POW of the Vietnam war, Navy Commander Everett Alvarez Jr. Commander Alvarez will be introduced by Marine Aide and post-presidential Chief-of Staff to President Nixon, Col. Jack Brennan.

2:00 PM 90-member Placentia Symphonic Band will perform a special patriotic concert in the White House East Room.
