Rumbi Island Grill opens in Mission Viejo

The tropical food chain opens its first of 35 O.C. and L.A. restaurants.

For OrangeCounty.com

Mission Viejo residents, myself included, will be thankful that something unique has replaced the generic Mustard Cafe on Alicia Plaza.

Rumbi Island Grill made a quiet debut Monday with its first California location, but kicked things into overdrive (last) Wednesday with a media preview of its island-inspired fare including rice bowls, salads and burgers.

More Rumbi locations are planned for Rancho Santa Margarita, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Anaheim, La Habra, Orange, Irvine and Brea in the coming months.

Not only is Rumbi a unique concept to Orange County, but the fare is impressive for a fast-casual joint. The food bursts with citrus, tropical sweetness and spice; I ordered a grilled jerk chicken sandwich for $6.99  and it puts most quick ‘n’ cheap eats to shame.

Location: Rumbi is located at 24000 Alicia Parkway Blvd .in Mission Viejo at The Gateway Center near Jeronimo Road and Via Fabricante.
