Green Lantern switches teams
We knew it was just a matter of time.
Hard on the heels of this week’s legal challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act comes another piece of earthshaking news: The Green Lantern is gay. At least this one is – a new parallel-universe Green Lantern named Alan Scott, who will live in a world called Earth 2. He’ll be introduced, along with his boyfriend, in a new comic book series.
Longtime fans of the Green Lantern might recognize the name Alan Scott. He appeared in 1940 as the original Green Lantern in the first issue of the D.C. comic. Back then he was straight – or at least married to a woman.
“He’s kind of a cross between Mark Zuckerberg and David Geffen,” explained James Robinson, the writer of the new series, to Entertainment Weekly. “He’s willing to give his life for the world. He’s everything you want in a hero. And he happens to be gay. So really, apart from his sexuality, there isn’t that much of a difference.”
This gives the Green Movement a whole new meaning.
