Photos: Final weekend at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells

The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells came to a spectacular finish this weekend as Roger Federer and Victoria Azarenka won titles, a large chunk of Baccarat crystal and a million dollars.

Federer (Images 01-06) vanquished John Isner in the finals (Images07-09 ) to claim his 73rd  singles championship and his fourth BNP Paribas title.  He reached the finals by defeating his iconic rival, Rafael Nadal (Images10-12 ) in an epic, rain delayed struggle Saturday night. Federer was serving for the match when showers threatened to end play.  After a brief nail biting delay, he blasted an ace past a diving Nadal to claim victory.  Isner  shocked the tennis world and number one Novak Djokovic (Images14-16) in their semi final match. His powerful, steady play earned him a birth in the ATP top ten where he joined fellow American, Mardy Fish.

Azarenka (Images 17-20 ) soundly defeated Maria Sharapova (Images 20-23) to solidify her world number one status.  Her joyous victory dance (Image  19) delighted applauding fans.  Number two ranked Sharapova,  defeated fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko (Image 24) and Ana Ivanovic (Image25) to reach the finals.

A  Flash Mob (Images  26-28) brought smiles and dancing to an enthusiastic crowd. Bright warm sunshine allowed some to sun bath and rest.  Rain on Saturday  brought out umbrellas (Images 32-33 ) but allowed time for shopping (Image34 ) and even a nap (Image35 ).  Fans supported their heroes by waving flags and carrying signs;  photographers  and lovely ladies were everywhere (Images 36-50).

The BNP Paribas Open 2013 is less than one year away.  Get ready.
