The Beastie Boys – Yauch, Adam Horowitz (Ad-Rock) and Michael Diamond (Mike D) – burst upon the music scene in 1986 with their brash debut album "Licensed to Ill" and continued to develop musically in ensuing years with albums such as "Paul's Boutique," "Check Your Head" and "To the 5 Boroughs."

Besides rapping, Yauch also played bass with the group. In 2006, he directed the Beastie Boys concert film "Awesome; I Shot That!"
