OC Music Awards kicks off 2011 showcases
It was a packed house last night at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa as a handful of local bands battled it out for the title of best live band and a chance to perform at the 2011 OC Music Awards ceremony in March. The first of seven 10th Anniversary OC Music Awards showcases featured Fullerton-based indie rock act Preacher's Sons, spunky indie rockers Semi Sweet, the Colourist – who is just fresh off of it's December Monday night residency at Detroit – last year's best new artist winners, the Steelwells, and 2010's best indie artist the New Limb.
Hosted by KROQ personality Kat Corbett, the kick off night drew an impressive crowd. The venue was at-capacity, shoulder-to-shoulder at some points and, unfortunately, if you didn't opt to sardine yourself into the main music room, most of the actual show was difficult to hear over casual crowd chatter.
The 35 artists performing in both best live band and best live acoustic showcases were selected from over 500 entries that were submitted to ocmusicawards.com. There are seven showcases total, held every Tuesday through Feb. 15 in various venues across the county, followed by two finale showcases. All of the shows are free and open to the public.
The 10th Annual OC Music Awards will be held on March 5 at the Grove of Anaheim.
