Christie Brinkley can't believe that Broadway called
Supermodel stars in 'Chicago' in L.A.
Supermodel Christie Brinkley, who stars in a production of “Chicago” that opens May 16 at L.A.’s Pantages Theatre, told the Register that when she was invited to audition for the Broadway production last year she thought it was a mistake.
“My agent was going over some offers that had come in, and he said, ‘And then there’s this and that, and “Chicago’s” producers called and asked if you’re interested in playing Roxie or Velma, and then there’s this other thing and blah and blah.’”
“I said, ‘Wait a minute. Back up. “Chicago” called to see if I wanted to play Roxie or Velma?’ He said, ‘Yeah, but you don’t have that kind of time.’”
“I said, ‘Wait another minute. Are you sure there wasn’t some sort of mistake? Are you sure they were calling about me?”’
Yeah, it must have been another Christie Brinkley they were thinking of. (It’s kind of cute to know she’s still a little insecure after decades of super-success.)
Brinkley started practicing that day in front of the bathroom mirror, convinced herself she could do it, and passed the audition with flying colors.
It was only when the 58-year-old went to see the show on Broadway that she had second thoughts.
“I watched those dancers kick their legs up past their ears and thought, ‘Oh my God. What was I thinking?’”
You can see Brinkley try to repeat that feat at the Pantages from May 15 through 27.
