THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced today that celebrated Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos has canceled his appearances with the orchestra this week due to illness.

The orchestra is scheduled to perform Saturday at Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa.

German conductor Christoph Konig will replace Fruhbeck de Burgos in performances in Disney Hall as well as in Costa Mesa.

Konig made an impressive debut with the Pacific Symphony earlier this season.

The program will be slightly changed. Konig will lead the L.A. Philharmonic in Dvorak's "Scherzo Capriccioso" (replacing Turina’s "Danzas fantásticas"), Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" (with guitarist Pepe Romero as soloist) and the Symphony No. 2 by Brahms.

Saturday's concert is presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.

Tickets are $30-$250. Call 949-553-2422 or visit www.philharmonicsociety.org for more information.
