Gaga boo-boo: Singer puts foot in mouth
Lady Gaga put her Twitter in her mouth during a visit to Thailand.
She arrived Wednesday night. She’s going to give a concert there. She was pretty excited about the prospect, so she started typing, sharing her wisdom with her 24 million followers on Twitter.
“I just landed in Bangkok baby!” she tweeted. “Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy fake Rolex.”
See the slip? Very good. Yup, her Gaganess just implied that Thailand is the Mecca of counterfeit watches.
Naturally, some Thais took exception. The AP characterized the reaction as an “uproar” in fact, and noted that some fans called Gaga’s remarks offensive, insulting and bad for the country’s image.
We like those noodles with the peanut sauce.
One Thai fan offered an ironic retort on his Facebook page.
“Welcome to the land of counterfeit products, love,” he wrote. “I'm sure there are plenty of fake Gaga CDs, too.”
