Cruise and Holmes reach divorce settlement
Cruise and Holmes settle divorce
Well, that was no fun.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have already settled their divorce.
Just as gossip sites and tabloids were settling in for what was expected to be long, nasty and juicy separation proceedings – you could practically hear them licking their chops – lawyers for the couple said Monday the pair settled less than two weeks after Holmes unexpectedly filed for divorce.
“The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed,” Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement. Cruise's rep Amanda Lundberg confirmed the settlement.
“We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution,” Wolfe added.
Cordial lawyers – also no fun.
Cruise and Holmes issued a joint statement.
“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents,” it said.
An unnamed source told the TMZ that one of Cruise’s conditions for a settlement was “meaningful, significant contact with his daughter.” The speed with which the settlement was reached presumably means he got it.
