Tenor lip syncs performance after calling in sick
Tenor lip syncs performance on sick day
Even opera singers do it. Lip sync, that is.
World famous tenor (well, he is) Jonas Kaufmann got caught doing it on a very public stage the other day. What’s worse, he had called in sick to his day job – at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Kaufman lip synched his performance at Allianz Arena in Munich over the weekend before the Champions League final there.
He had canceled his high profile Met appearances on April 29 and May 7 because of illness.
Thursday, the tenor took to Facebook to explain.
“To avoid any further misunderstandings: I did not sing, but rather lip-synched to a prerecorded tape,” Kaufmann confessed. “Had the promoters insisted on my singing live there, of course I would have canceled that appearance as well. At the CLF I just had to stand there and mime for five minutes.”
The fans got their money’s worth. “To avoid all doubts,” Kaufmann added, “I did it for free!”
