The internationally-acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre’s Minsk, 2011: A Reply to Kathy Acker, came to Segerstrom Center for the Arts' Founders Hall January 24-26. The play is set in Belarus, Europe’s last dictatorship and is performed in Russian with English subtitles projected on a screen behind the performers.
Exploring the suppression of sexuality in the shadow of a dictatorship, Minsk, 2011 scenes include gay pride parades, strip clubs and underground raves, all of which the company members have been arrested or forced into hiding for recreating in this play.
