"Disney Junior - Live on Stage," is now playing live at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. The park retooled the show, previously called "Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage," to go along with the new theme of Disney Channel's block now aimed at ages 2 to 7. Disney Junior programming began Feb. 14 and it will get its own cable channel next year. This week, California Adventure visitors got to see previews of the almost 25-minute "Disney Junior" show, which officially begins Friday. The theater had been closed since Jan. 24 when crews began remodeling the building for the new show. The same "Disney Junior" park show debuted March 4 in Walt Disney World in Florida. See a previous story about the "Disney Junior" park show announcement. Dan Fields, the show's creative director, said the parks were fortunate to add the new "Jake" characters so soon after their T.V. debut, especially given how popular the show has become. "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," an animated program based on "Peter Pan," is the top-rated children's show for ages 2 to 5. It ranks above Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "SpongeBob SquarePants" on Nickelodeon, according to ratings. "Jake" also is the top-rated show ever for that age group on the Disney Channel, as well as women ages 18 to 49. "You just want it to be as fresh as possible," Fields said about the park shows. Most of the "Disney Junior" park show is the same as the previous production, retaining scenes from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Handy Manny" and "Little Einsteins." A segment from "My Friends Tigger and Pooh," which is no longer on the air, was deleted. The "Jake" portion has eight characters, bringing the total to 28 in the entire production. Most are kid-sized puppets, while one is a projected rocket ship. The interactive show includes dancing, jumping, bubbles and confetti, aimed at preschool-aged children who sit on the floor.
